A Simple Test to See if Your Story Premise Is Any Good

Do you really know how good your story is? Remember, 99 percent of scripts are not marketable, producible, or able to engage a large audience.

To help you evaluate whether your script has a strong story, ask yourself these three questions:

1. What universal theme does your film dramatize?

2. What’s the fresh angle or hook in your story premise?

3. Does your story feature a new character motivation or problem?

If you can’t provide compelling answers to at least two of these questions, I encourage you to spend more time developing your premise.

Everything in developing, writing, and pitching a story starts with a strong premise.
